Dear Friends of Offspring,

It’s been exactly 3 years since I jumped on a plane and headed to India. At the time, I actually didn’t know anyone on the other end…I was just hoping to make friends pretty quickly I suppose! I’ll be honest in saying that half way through the plane ride I felt like calling the airhostess and telling her to turn the plane around! I had so many mixed emotions, and at that point I thought to myself, ‘What crazy thing are you getting yourself involved in Kristi?’

But it has been 3 years that have totally changed my life. I’ve cried, laughed, sweated (a lot!), been challenged, frustrated & amazed. I’ve met some incredible people along the way, done a complete flip of career paths (from PE teacher to CEO & clutch designer??) and living conditions have taken some getting used to…the random swarm of thousands of bugs that flew into our bathroom and died in the middle of the night was definitely an interesting experience!

I’ve certainly had my moments of feeling like things are just taking too long to get up and running. But as I look back now, I realise just how far we have actually come. The ‘crazy thing’ I was getting into was the birth of something better than I could have ever imagined! It was never a “me” thing, but an amazing team of people, both in Australia and India, who have made it what it is today. And to those people (you know who you are), I am eternally grateful.

It’s been 3 years of learning, adapting & recognizing more and more that, without a doubt, we have a special responsibility to ‘do something’. And not just a responsibility, but a privilege!

High: Having Kerryn (a friend who has been working in Chennai) here with me has been great. We’ve battled out a few Monopoly Deal sessions & have been sucked into Survivor episodes. She also likes baking, so win-win for me J

Low: The heat is almost unbearable! We reached a ‘feels like’ temperature of 52 degrees the other day. I’m not sure I always believe whoever is behind the ‘feels like’ temp because I’m pretty sure at 52 degrees I wouldn’t be moving 😉 But whatever the temperature is, the fans on the roof aren’t cutting it at the moment!

Interesting: Did you know that during the elections in India, after voting, you get a semi-permanent black mark on your left hand so that you can’t vote again? Interesting hey.
